Blue Sonnet by Ron Willis

,Blue Sonnet

A pallid sun has tumbled from the sky, harvest moon is rising blue,
Forlorn, I pine under nameless stars, and I wonder where are you.
...A night bird whistles I'm the one, coyote swears it was never me,
I'm blinded by starlight, bright, you are out there, but I can't see.

Autumn maples whisper in the dark, tall grass beckons for me to come,
I search for you in dreams, waiting, hoping some day to be the one.
The one who holds you breathlessly, who kisses the night safe,
I carry this torch as is my wont, for I know no other way.

The deep night is my safe place, I am beautiful in the dark,
Alas, dawn must find this weathered face, and beauty is but a lark.
The sun has tumbled from the sky, the moon refuses the night,
I'm left standing in the pitch, and you are nowhere in sight.

You might never love me, and maybe you'll never know...
